Stereo jacks come in two forms, 3 pole and 4 pole, potentially compatible with each other, but only with decent quality sockets. Upgraded my socket and then ran into a problem - the new one used its case as a ground and my old bezel was Ali shorting the audio ground to the chassis.
Spent a couple of hours building a replacement bezel from an off-cut of Formica.
3-4 coats of paint and you would never know the difference; except this one doesn't ground the headphone jack and my iPhone earphones as well as the helmet speakers work properly.
