Trains and Tunnels
Early start, Eurotunnel train from Folkestone to France around 7am
Start off clean!
The route heads roughly along the Belgium/France border towards the Black Forest in Germany.
Lunch at a likely place in Belgium, then the first overnight stop at Bitche.
Bitche
Chosen for its position on a rough line to Vienna, but also some interesting architecture - the town is dominated by a Napoleonic fort.
Good views from the top, we only had time to wander around the outside though.
The hotel itself just opposite the relatively newly closed railway station.
A little street art in town provides a warm welcome!
..and your pretty typical french town hall - high rise beehives at the windows?
First leg is complete - a relatively long run intended to get us close to Germany.
